Therapeutic Services Pathway Career Majors

Practical Nursing - Alva Campus only
Core Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology as well as Long Term Care Aide are included in this career major. This career major prepares the student to become a licensed practical nurse, an important member of the health care team who works under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or dentist. Students will learn the role of the LPN and how to care for a variety of patients including geriatric, pediatric, oncology, and pre/post operative patients. Students will learn how to identify patient problems, identify appropriate interventions and evaluate nursing care. Graduates of this career major will be eligible take the NCLEX-PN and become licensed through the Board of Nursing.

Certificate Options in Program/Majors: Adult classes run from August to May.  Competency certificates are awarded in all majors with the exception of the practical nursing program which is a twelve month program and leads to a diploma in Practical Nursing.  Practical Nursing students also have the opportunity to complete the NCLEX-PN.

Vaccination Policy for Practical Nursing Students: Northwest Technology Center has a vaccination policy for Practical Nursing students only.  Those students must provide

  • Evidence of current immunization to tetanus and MMR (measles, mumps and rubella)
  • Evidence of a negative tuberculin skin test or evidence of a negative chest x-ray in the event of a positive tuberculin skin test within the past 12 months
  • Evidence of the first injection of the Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Evidence of positive varicella titer, and
  • Evidence of childhood immunizations

Tuition:
In-District Adult - $5,960
Out-of-District Adult - $8,223

Practical Nursing fees may vary for each student depending on what the student may already have available to them.  Students will not be required to buy items/supplies already available to them if the items/supplies are deemed sufficient for use in the program and are approved as such by the Practical Nursing Director/Instructor. Differences in fees will be approved by the Practical Nursing Director/Instructor will be documented for each student. Salary Range: $12 - $19 per hour
