Students Learn About Entrepreneurship

Posted on January 4, 2013

Many people dream of starting and running their own business and being an entrepreneur! Members of Northwest Technology Center’s Superintendent’s Leadership Class learned about Entrepreneurship during a recent trip. The group traveled to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and toured the Robert S. Kerr Center for Food and Ag Products (FAPC). The group from Northwest Technology Center in Alva was joined by students from Northwest Technology Center in Fairview and High Plains Technology Center (HPTC) in Woodward.

During the tour of FAPC, the students learned about food and ag products that are made in Oklahoma. They also learned about product testing, marketing and developing a business plan. The students were also given a campus tour.

This is the tenth year for Northwest Technology Center to have a leadership program. Students participate in a professional application and interview process. The group members attend monthly meetings with topics such as Oklahoma's legislative process, teambuilding and leadership. The students will end the year in March with a completion celebration. The leadership class is sponsored and funding is provided by the Northwest Technology Center Foundation. The group’s next activity will be a trip to High Plains Technology Center in Woodward to learn more about time and financial management.

Students participating in the leadership class include: Taelor McClure, Dianna Gonzales, Matt Appleton, Tanner McGehee, Shane Murrow, Matt Martin, Kelsey Starks, EmmaRae Cook, Brieanna McClure and Connor Cummings of Alva, Kelsi Miller, Conner Whitely and Marshall Whitely of Cherokee, Brittany Pester, Charlie Hess, Brandy Nunn, Braden Smith and Connor White of Fairview, Nataly Trejo of Ringwood, Jessica Zweifel of Meno and Skylar Kerr of Aline.
