Posted on August 12, 2013

Northwest Technology Center announced that it has received Provisional Approval from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing to begin a Practical Nursing program later this fall.   The program will be available to students from throughout the district.  Coursework for the initial class will be held primarily at the Alva campus but clinical sites will rotate at healthcare facilities throughout the district, including, Fairview, Cherokee and Alva.  The initial class of practical nursing students will be limited to 12.  This number is designated by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing which takes into consideration, the size and number of available clinical facilities.

An Open House is being held on August 12 from 5-7pm at both the Alva and the Fairview campuses.   Information on the Practical Nursing program will be available at that event.

In order to apply for admission into the program, potential students will need to gather all high school and college transcripts, obtain immunization records, present proof of CNA Certification and AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Certification, be aware of the OSBI Background check in all 3 divisions and be preparing for the T.E.A.S. test.  Test preparation can be found at www.aittesting.com.   Potential students who are interested obtaining an application, should contact Kate Nickel, PN Secretary at 580-327-0344 to schedule a T.E.A.S test.  The tests will be administered at Northwest Technology Center beginning on August 12.  Applications will also be available beginning on August 12.

Diane Duffy will serve as the program’s director and an instructor. Tara Thomas and Debra Button will also be instructors in the program.
